Your privacy is important
We recognise your right to privacy. Your data is important, and we agree. We are committed to ensuring your privacy is at all times respected and maintained based on our own policy and Singapore privacy obligations under the Personal Data Protection Act 2012.
Personal data - what is it?
Personal information is any information including an opinion about you, true or not, from which we can determine your identity. Examples are names and phone numbers.
It may range from sensitive (e.g. medical history) to skills, qualifications, accreditations, and employment history. We may also keep data, such as references (whether true or not) or notes from any contact we've had with you. Personal information includes sensitive information.
If you are a client, the data we collect includes contact details, details of your business environment, job descriptions and written records of our conversations.
If you are a referee, we collect your contact details, title and data within reason to support candidate suitability for work.
1 What does this privacy policy cover?
This privacy policy explains precisely how we use, manage, protect, disclose and destroy your information. It also discusses your privacy rights in addition to our general rights and obligations when it comes to the personal data we record at Symmetry.
By continuing to use our services via our website or by providing personal data to us, you agree to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal data for the purposes set out in this privacy policy.
2 Collection of personal data
We collect personal data of our employees, potential employees, clients, referees, suppliers, business contacts and website users. Reasons for collecting personal data and the ramifications of not providing it will be announced at the time of collection.
2.1 We may collect your personal data when you:
- Subscribe to our services or request further help on our website
- Contact us to report a problem with our websites or make an enquiry, provide feedback or comment, and
- You apply for a job or work with Symmetry; you may need to provide information about your academic and employment history and accreditations. Your application authorises your express consent to our use of this data to access your application and allow us to carry out any confirmations and other related activities required of us under applicable law as an employer.
2.2 Symmetry may also collect personal data from public records and third parties.
2.3 The decision to provide personal data that isn’t on public record is yours. However, without your consent, we may not be able to provide you with the services you have asked of us.
2.4 When you give us another person's personal data, examples include, referring a potential employee, a referral for a job or a referee, you are responsible for ensuring that person is made aware that you have shared their personal information and have their consent in relation to our privacy policy
3 Who will be collecting your personal data

4 Use and disclosure of personal data
Symmetry holds, uses and discloses your personal data for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will not use or release your personal data for any other purpose without first seeking your consent unless authorised or required by law. Generally, we will only hold, use, disclose and process your personal data for the following reasons:
- To provide our products and services to you.
- Allow us to maintain our professional relationship, where you are a user of our website, or a candidate or client.
- To allow you to interact with our services by enabling you to submit your CV, apply for specific jobs, subscribe to “JobAlerts” or other services we provide.
- To evaluate your experience, qualifications and motivations against the needs of job vacancies, help us in finding a relevant job for you and, with consent, send your personal data to clients for specific jobs or as otherwise explained to you.
- To enable us to provide clients with information about you for a placement, including professional and academic history, right to work and others (and sensitive data, with your consent).
- To contact referees with contact details provided by you about previous work.
- To reply to your questions.
- To present opportunities, provide newsworthy updates or alert you to events, promotions and other information, which you may unsubscribe at any time.
- If Symmetry merges with or is taken over by another business, we may share your personal data with the new owners of the company and their advisers.
- We may also divulge your personal data if it is needed by law, where divulgence is necessary to prevent a threat to life, health or safety, or where permitted by data privacy law.
- To satisfy any legal, regulatory or statutory requirements relating to our provision of products and services and to make disclosure under the conditions of any applicable law, legislation, rule, ruling, regulation, direction, court order, by-law, guideline, circular or code (collectively "laws") relevant to us.
- Benchmarking, research and other data analysis we may carry out.
5 Sharing of personal data
Your personal data will always be kept private but there are times when we must release your personal data. When that happens, we will only provide the minimum information necessary to fulfil the requirement.
We may share your personal data for the following reasons; to service or product providers in connection with our products or services; and anybody or person to whom we are compelled or required to do so under any laws or in response to any government, federal, state or local, statutory or municipal authority, regulators, law enforcement, agency or body.
6 Privacy on our websites
- Submitting your CV and applying for a job
You may give us your CV via this website, either for general assessment by our recruiters for “JobAlerts” as they come online or apply to an advertised job. Once submitted, the recruitment consultant will receive and consider your information & confirm receipt of your CV on our database. . A recruitment consultant should then contact you for an initial discussion. Your data can be accessed by all recruitment consultants working at Symmetry who may contact you to present an opportunity.
Important: It is your responsibility to maintain your information at all times. You may log in to your account on our website to update contact details, cv or change your consent.
2. JobAlerts
When you sign up for JobAlerts, you must provide your email address. We will use your email address to inform you of the latest jobs and news in the relevant industry. If you wish to stop receiving these emails, you may unsubscribe using the link provided.
3. Website visitors and data
We store data and statistics about all website visitors, including the most frequently accessed pages. This data is kept in aggregate form (does not identify any individual). We use this data to help us learn what is important to you and improve our online services to create a better overall recruitment experience.
7 Securing your data
Symmetry has security arrangements for all the personal data we hold. We have controls and relevant policies, procedures and guidelines to support these arrangements taking into account the risks associated with the types of personal data and where the processing is undertaken.

Methods we employ include:
- We do not print your personal information, thus paper records are never left on a desk or in need of shredding.
- Limiting access with password protection to the data we hold on you. Access to your data is given to those who need it for the purposes outlined in this document.
- Requiring any third party providers to have the same security policies to keep personal data secure; and
- Further measures in line with data protection and industry standards.
8 Holding personal data
We keep your personal data only for as long as is necessary. Our records management and retention policies have procedures to delete personal data after a reasonable time if
- we no longer have an ongoing relationship with you or you no longer subscribe to any service
- We have exhausted any requirement to comply with our legal and contractual obligations.
Symmetry will take all practical steps to destroy your information or when that isn't possible (See
10.4)
we will de-personalise the data.
9 Website links
Links to other websites. It is your responsibility to consult the privacy policies of these websites as we cannot be held responsible for any data submitted to or collected by these third parties.
10 Your rights and withdrawing your consent
10.1 You may request access to update to delete your personal data held at Symmetry by contacting the Symmetry Privacy Officer; as outlined in item 12. We may ask for verification and the reason for your request. We may refuse your request if legally permitted and we will give you reasons for doing so.
10.2
When you request your personal data to be updated and there is a dispute about the facts, we will note such conflict in your personal data. If you have created an account with Symmetry via our website it is your responsibility to keep the information current and updated at all times. You can view and update your data by logging in to your account on our website.
10.3
You may also request that Symmetry stop using your data and contacting you by withdrawing your consent. If you prefer not to receive newsletters and updates from us, you can "unsubscribe" at any time.
10.4 Please be aware that it is not always possible to delete your data, such as when your information includes data about our clients.
10.5 We reserve the right to charge a fee for administering such requests.
11 Complaints
Symmetry will acknowledge your complaint as soon as possible, and we commit to resolving all complaints within four weeks. If for reasons to do with the complaint this is not possible, we will respond within reason. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact Singapore Personal Data Protection Commissioner.
